| LEAGUE TEAM RESULTS (EL PLANTIO) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd League Match Friday, November 7th saw all the “A” league teams turn up at El Plantio on a gorgeous sunny morning with little sign of the usual windy conditions that prevail at this time of the year. It certainly started blowing a bit around lunchtime but not half as bad as it often does, so no matches were greatly affected. The course was in good order especially the greens which were like lightning, as Ewen Murray often quips “It was like putting in the bath tub!” I think they were the downfall of quite a few teams with 3 and even 4 putting not being out of the ordinary. We played La Siesta who was the only team below us in the league so a victory of one form or another was a must. Rob’ and Baray were first out off the tenth tee and they beat their opposition by 10 points in the cumulative stableford format. I was partnered with pro’ Joe, probably to give him a few pointers, and after both having a bad start we hitched up our socks and came back strongly to make it 2 - 0 with our 8 point margin. Fellow captain, Alan, ably assisted by Nigel came in as our third winners with a 13 point difference, so it was a nail-biting wait for our last group to see if we’d pulled off a whitewash. Sure enough the grinning “El Presidente”, accompanied by Alan, proudly strutted off the last green punching the air in his very own shy and modest way in celebration of their victory by a massive 15 points. A very welcome 12 points for the 4 wins plus the 3 bonus points gave us 15 points which shot us up the league table to 4th spot hopefully giving all our members and sponsor, La Campana, to whom we are all deeply grateful, a little taste of better things to come. Another important statistic from the day is our team’s average score was a very commendable 32. Also our total point tally of 254 was over 30 more than the current league leaders managed on the day….there’s hope yet! Well done to all concerned !! I believe the December matches have had to be postponed, so our next is going to be at El Valle on 9th January when we take on San Javier. Phil B. (Joint league Capt.)
