San Miguel Golf Society is the oldest society on the Southern Costa Blanca. Formed in a bar in San Miguel , hence it´s name, in 1991 playing their inaugural game at La Marquesa (Quesada). The society with 12 members, was known as the society with no home until moving to Las Ramblas. The object of the society was to allow members to play golf at discounted green fees at the, then, 3 courses in the area. At the present time San Miguel has a membership in excess of 170, with several from the Scandinavian countries. About 100 of the membership are ex-pats who live in Spain permanently, and we get problems in the golf season (winter) trying to fit them all in. We play every Wednesday on a wide selection of the courses in the Costa Blanca area, and find they are most appreciative and make us most welcome. The achievements of the society speaks volumes. Before joining the Vega Baja league we were in the Costa Blanca league for 4 years finishing in 3rd position 3 times and winning the league in 1999 – 2000 season. We also hold the Ivar Haukkson challenge trophy which is played between 4 societies. In 2003 – 2004 season we won the Championship of the Vega Baja Premier Golf League, the Inter-society match at Alicante Golf and the Anniversary Challenge Trophy against Torrevieja Golf Society. Over the years we have supported the Alpee, Help, and Red Cross charities.

On the social side the Committee organise Pig Roasts, End of Summer Ball on the terrace at Campoamor Golf Club, the Captains Dinner/Dance held on the last Saturday in September when we toast our Captain, organised trips to a Casino, and of course, not forgetting our annual Christmas party. We produce a Diary every year detailing the coming years fixtures which is free to all members. San Miguel is a very friendly society and welcomes new members or any one who would like to join us in a friendly game of golf, but if you want any more information you can always e-mail us.

Report for May 2008.

The Annual Dinner and presentation of the Vega Baja Premier League was held on Saturday 27th May 2008 at San Javier.Our league Captain (2007/8),Joe Dean, his wife and other members of our league team were there to recieve the runners up trophy for the "B" divison thereby returning us back to "A" division afer spending just one season in the lower division.The new Captain for 2008/9 will be Mr. Alan Rixson and I am sure that he will do a splendid job for us.(top left Joe Dean receiving the runners up trophy).(Top right team members at the Inter Society Match.) The last match of the league season which was the Inter Society match played at El Plantio,where as well as team prizes were played for there were also prizes for individual scores,unfortunately none of S.M.G.S. members featured in them.However we did enjoy the meal and raffle afterwards.A good day was had by all.
